Martina Tomner – Composer

Jag är mycket glad och hedrad att ha blivit nominerad till Musikförläggarnas Pris 2025 i kategorin ”Årets Konstmusik – Liten ensemble/kammarmusik” för mitt stycke Palindrome.

Stycket beställdes och uruppfördes 2024 av Stockholms Saxofonkvartett och Quasar Quatuor de saxophones, och framfördes under hösten 2024 på en turné i Sverige och Canada.

Juryns motivering:
Palindrome för saxofonoktett är ett mångbottnat verk där motiv återkommer som karaktärer i ett drama. Klangen speglar och vrider sig i suggestiva mönster – expressivt, rått och färgrikt, som i ett musikaliskt spegelrum.

Vinnaren kommer att presenteras under en gala i Stockholm den 7 november.

My new composition Palindrome for saxophone octet, a commission by Stockholm Saxophone Quartet with support from the Swedish Arts Council, will be premiered by Stockholm Saxophone Quartet and Quasar Quatuor de saxophones in October 2024.

My newly composed chamber music drama, Avskärmad, for recorder, soprano and EAM, will premiere on Saturday, June 10, at Stenkrossen, Lund, 18:00, with a second performance at Stenkrossen on June 11, 15:00.

Avskärmad is an experimental music drama project exploring topics such as isolation, ambivalence and power hierarchies in human interactions, and how our perception of reality is influenced by digital communication.

The performance is built around two central characters, a mother and a daughter, whose relationship will be portrayed on stage through music, poetry, and AI generated dialogue. The theme of the project is the challenges presented by physical interactions and nonverbal communication between humans, compared to the effortless “mirroring” offered when talking to an AI.

The piece will be premiered by recorder player Ida Höög and soprano Agnes Wästfelt.

The choral piece Porten for women’s chorus will be premiered on May 4, 2022, 19:30, at Malmö Live. The piece was commissioned by Körcentrum Syd and is based on a speech by Selma Lagerlöf. It will be performed by the choir Korallerna conducted by Linda Alexandersson.

My piece for string orchestra, Tempelmusik II (2010), will be performed by Malmö Symphony Orchestra at Malmö Live on April 29, 2021.
